ECO-FRIENDLY INN
We are proud to announce that The Old Winterport Commercial House is going green !
If you’ve stayed with us before, you may notice the following changes.
Our Guests Rooms
Our guests are given the choice of whether they desire to have their bed linen and towels
changed on an everyday basis. By using their same linens it helps us to conserve and reduce
water consumption and energy.
Plastic silverware and plastic/styrofoam bowls have been replaced with glass bowls and
stainless steel silverware.
A recycling container is in our Breakfast Galley for guest’s cans and plastic bottles.
A daily newspaper is supplied to our guests every morning which will be recycled after that
day. Our guests are also welcome to leave their own newspapers with us to recycle.
We are in the process of installing energy efficient Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs in guest
rooms to replace regular light bulbs.
Other Eco-Friendly Practices Our Inn Is Incorporating:
We have instituted the eco-friendly motto of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle whenever possible.
A new energy efficient front load washing machine has been installed (our old washing
machine was recycled.)
We have begun using eco-friendly, biodegradable cleaning products.
Left over breakfast items are placed in our compost bin (when applicable.)
Efforts are made to purchase locally grown organic foods.
Dependency on oil usage is being reduced by using an EPA approved wood stove as
supplemental heat in the antique shop.
